VOLUNTEERING.

The Naval Brigade held their monthly inspection parade on Saturday evening, at the Volunteer Hall, Shorthand. There was a very good muster indeed, all the officers of the corps being present, .as was also the band and a large majority of the men. After their inspection, which passed off most satisfactorily, the company, headed by the fifes and drums, marched through Grahamstown, and back to the Academy of Music, where a meeting was held to discuss the affairs of the company. We believe that they have a great objection to their parade ground being shifted to Shorthand, and steps are to be taken for them to return to Grahamstown for parades, as by far the larger number of the men belong to that end of the district.

Our representatives, five in number, have al Itaken their departure, and proceed South in the Wellington. They were accompanied to the boat by numbers of friends who take an interest in our Volunteering matters, and were wished a hearty good bye and a successful trip. Judging from the known prowess of more than one of them, we feel confident that they will leave their march behind them, and our district will come well out of the ordeal.

It is in contemplation to give an amateur dramatic performance at the Theatre Royal at an early date, for the purpose of raising funds for the newly organised Engineer corps. From the amount of support promised, it will, we think, be a success.
