NORFOLK ISLAND.
An opportunity occurs of sending you a few lines via New Caledonia, and although we have little or no news, still I must let you know how the world wags with us on our solitary rock. Young Fairfax, who you will remember was so dreadfully wounded in the groin by a gunshot wound, is in a fair way of recovery, thanks to a good constitution and the medical care of his friends and Dr Watling. We have been suffering from a most disastrous drought. The grain crops are almost perished, and I fear that we shall be rather short of provisions in conseqnence. There has not been a drop pf rain since November last. They arc all well at the St. Barnabas mission station, and are working away with great perseverance, although, of course, still under a cloud after the loss of their good Bishop and Mr Atkin. A bov, a native of Valua, died the other day rather suddenly, supposed to be from an affection of the brain. — Herald.
