CAPSIZING OF A CARGO-BOAT.

During tlie strong easterly gale which was blowing yesterday, tin: cutter ‘Turn O'Shanter,’ 1G ions, met with an accident, which fortunately, was not attended with any serious consequences to those on board the boat. It appears that when about a mile and a half oil: Tararu Point she was struck with a very strong puff ol wind, and (ho boat being rather heavily laden—having 24 tons of firewood on board at Hie time* or tlie catastrophe lurched to the. leeward very considerably, and almost immediately filled, and went over, ultimately settling on a sandbank off’ the end of the wharf at Tararu. The master, Antonio Fernandez, and his mate, luckily, managed to grasp hold of the mast, ami held there until a boat put off from a cutter that was lying at anchor at Tararu, and rescued them from their very disagreeable situation. The ‘Tam O’tShantcr’ is au open boat, consequently she had no hatches to cover over the hold, and thus gave free vent to the rush of water. The boat is owned by Capt. Souter, aud was coming from Deadmau’s Point, with firewood. The p.s. ‘ Challenger’ went to tlie scene of the accident to render assistance, but it was too late, ami she returned to tlraliamslown. Indeed it is very provideniial tint it was not in deep water that the boat was at the time of tiie lurch or at night, for if it had been so, most inevitably there would have been loss of life, ns the dingy belonging to tlie cult r had been previously lost. There was about a fathom and a half of water on the bank where she sank.
