TARAIA NGAKUTI
We yesterday inspected the coffin which has been prepared for the reception of Tnraia Ngakuti’s remains. It is made of kauri, and is very nicely fund - lied, being lined and padded on the inside. Where the chief's head will conic a pane of glass about, eighteen inches lias been inserted, which will give his friends a chance of seeing' his countenance for a long time to conic, and a plate is fixed just below with a golden crown, and the name Taraia Ngakuti. We hear from Ohincmuri that an immense meeting is about to talee place, and from all we can sec there is every probability of (lie natives up there being pretty nearly eaten out of house and' home by their visitors, more especially as this is such a bad season for their crops, food being scarcer now than it lias been a long time past. Wo suppose that if they do run out of food for tho coming wilder the Government will be applied to for assistance, and perhaps this very tiling may have tiic effect of assisting in opening up the country a little sooner than it would otherwise be done.
