FATAL ACCIDENT AT KAUKAPAKAPA.
\Vn arc sorry to learn that an accident occurred in the Kaukapakapn, bv which the life of a young hoy named Goodwin was lost. Tiie hoy was the son of a settler residing in that district. It appears that the deceased and a brother somewhat older than himself had been out playing about the river. The two had been on a log when they were suddenly surrounded with water, the result of a sudden fresh from the rain on Sunday last. The younger brother lost his hold of the log or was washed off it, and was drowned. The father seems to have been in indifferent health for some time past, and was in Auckland during the time the accident occurred. The elder boy having got home and reported the accident, some of the neighbours joined in searching for t lie body, which was ultimately recovered. A relative of .Mr Goodwin brought the sad intelligence into town on Tuesday, and we understand there is a likelihood of an inquest being held to ascertain the cireum stances attending the accident. —1).
