THAMES MUNICIPALITY.

A meeting of the Thames Municipality Committee was held yesterday afternoon, at the Pacific Hotel. Present :—Dr Kilgour (in the chair), and Messrs llurgess, Wallnutt, Swan, Davits, Tyler, Goodall, and Lloyd.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Mr Dean said some 230 resident householders in Grahnmslown had signed the petition. There were about 470 ratepayers, and about 2fi more would sign. .Mr Perston had some signatures, but be could not say how many.

Mr OoonAi.i. said lie had not had time to canvass l’arawai properly, but be believed about 20 ratepayers bad or would sign, and more would be obtained most likely by a canvass amongst tbe natives. Mr Burgess thought it would be well to endeavour to obtain more signatures. Tbe Chairman concurred.

It was agreed that Messrs Gudgeon, Dean, Swan, Lloyd, Ilrearley, and Davies should canvass Gralfamstown ; Messrs liurgess, Scott, and Hudson, Block 27 ; Messrs Wallnutt, Gibbons, and Ivilgour, Shorthand, south of Willoughby-street; Messrs Heron, Tyler, and Perston, north of Willongliby-strect; and .Mr Goodall, Pnrawai. Mr Goodall and tbe Chairman said they understood that Mr Mackay had promised to use his influence with the natives in this matter in favour of the petition The meeting then adjourned until next Monday at 4 p.m.
