Ft, vino Cloud. —Yesterday 27nz. 2dwt. were lodged as tbe result of a partial clean up for this company at tbe Mannknu Battery, where 10 bead arc employed by the company. Pickwick. —A most rascally trick has boon commilfcd by some blackguards on this company. It seems that they have a paibbn k of about ten tons of quartz ready for the mill, wliicli was meant for a trial crushing from tbe lode worked on in tiio claim. 'l’llin was to have been sent down vrstenlay, but it seems that sometime between Saturday night and Monday morning some scoundrel, or scoundrels, went and poured a large quantity of fat all over tbe heap, thus rendering it unfit to crush. The thing was done systematically, the fat having been lir.-t melted down, and then poured all over the heap, when of course it found its way down into the heap. From the appearance of the stone, several pounds of suet, must have been used. Nothing is ns yet known as to who has done this, but we understand that suspicion points to some one who is being watched, and if the perpetrator of the deed can lie found, we sincerely hope that lie will receive the due reward of his conduct. AVi.thout going to a good deni of trouble and expense, (lie quartz is of course useless to the owners, as it would be impossible to save the gold, besides which it would do a great injury to the machine.
