Several foot-races came otf at Up oni on Saturday afternoon, near the Prince Alh'Ti Hotel. The first was between Kllis and Allan, for £2O, distance 100 yar is. Kllis came in an easy winner. The next was a handicap race for Al, between twelve, four amateur runners, distance KM* yards. Palmer was the winner. A race was then made no between Palmer and .1. Sonlli, who had also taken part in the handicap, for £5. distance 100 yards. The betting was in favour of South, who won by about three yards. During the last week one hundred miners were discharged from the Kawakawa coal mines in consequence of the mines being flooded. Of these, twenty-one arrived in Auckland by the Comerang on Saturday, twenty-six by the Duke of Edinburgh yesterday, and thirty left in the schooner Ariel, which will probably arrive to-day.— Ur raid.
A correspondent of the Grey [liver Argun asserts that in the Courts on the West Coast there is a ‘•frightful amount of false swearing. not to say deliberate perjury, continually being committed.'’
