AMUSEMENTS.

Theatre Royal. —A large audience assembled at this house last night, to be entertained by Professor Haselmaycr, and a nice night’s amusement was provided for them. We have not space to particularise the performance, suffice it to say that we think it was the best that he has given up to the present time. His playing of the “ Carnival of Venice ” on the piano with a clothes brush was astounding, and all the tricks were done with a finished nicety of touch, which elicited constant and well-deserved applause. We much regret to have to state that Mr Haselmaycr sustained a very severe loss last night. 11 is favourite and best-educated bird, King William, took a fly amongst the audience, and was killed by a brute of a dog in the stalls, who, we are sure, had no earthly business to be where lie was. Mr Haselmaycr was deeply all'ected by the loss, as the bird was his great favourite. To-night he announces a grand performance for the ladies, who will receive boquets grown on the stage, and his Paper Mili, or the New Zealand Treasury outdone.

Academy of Music. —.Miss Raymond took her benefit hero last night, but, wc are sorry to say that there was a poor house for such an occasion. Signor Donato, the great attraction, danced in his wonderful, undescribablc style, bringing down fre(|ucnt bursts of applause. To-night Mr J. P. Ilydcs takes a benefit, and as it is his farewell, we trust to see a bumper house.
