VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The second preliminary firing for places in the proposed International llifle Match took place on Saturday last, at the Mount Eden Rifle Range. Ranges, 200, 500, and 600 yards, 7 rounds at each distance. At 200 yards, target G by 4 feet, bull’s-eye 8 inches square, centre 2 feet square, position standing ; and at 500 and GOO yards, target G by G, bull's-eye 2 by 2, centre iby 4. The weather was tlic most unfavourable that has as yet been experienced on this range. At times the target was almost hidden by tho foggy atmosphere, and altogether there was a most uncomfortable and unfavourable light for shooting. Notwithstanding all disadvantages, two good scores were made, as will he seen below. The highest score was made by Sergeant Tiernov, on behalf of the Irish, with 5G ; tho next highest by Ensign Devore, for tho English, with 54. For the Scotch, Volunteer Reid, 41. Some of the scores made at 200 yards were very good, and far above the average.— D. ti. Crass.
