SPORTS AT TARARU.

Yesterday afternoon, a number of sporting gentlemen assembled at Tararu for the purpose of witnessing a few matches which had been made up between our local horses. The first event was a match between Mr Rountree’s bay pony and Mr Winch’s grey, for £5 a side ; distance, 2 miles; won easily by Mr Rountree’s horse. The next event was a hack race; distance, once round the course, about a mile, which was won by Thomas’s pony, beating two others. Another hack race followed, in which Winch’s grey came in first, beating two others easily. The next event was a match between Rountree’s bay pony and Mr Foss’s horse; owners up ; twice round the course. Mr Rountree’s pony was again victorious. A match between Thomas’s pony and Winch’s pony was then arranged, which was won, after a good race, by the grey.
