FATAL ACCIDENT TO ONE OF QUICK’S COACHMEN.

Our Cambridge correspondent writes : “Again 1 have to report a fatal accident, which 1 am sorry to say makes the third that has occurred in this district since the commencement of the year. Thomas Yerran has been for the last month or two driving Quick’s coach between Cambridge and Ngaruawahia. Yostoiday evening, shortly after his arrival here, ho and another person look four horses to the Karapirau water, a little above its conlliieuce with the Waikato, for the purpose of giving them a wash. There is very little water in the Karapirau at present, and the unfortunate man, instead of following the example of his companion, in going higher up the brook in search for a deeper place, took his two horses down to the river. At the mouth of: the Karapirau, the bed of the river shelves abruptly from a depth of a few inches to several fathoms, and poor A'crran and the horse lie was riding got into this deep place, where there is a strong eddy. He let go the letl horse, but clung round the neck of the animal he was riding, and in less than a minute both the horse and his rider were drawn under and drowned. By directions of Sergeant Cliitty, a party of tho Constabulary immediately proceeded to drag for the body, which they found after the lapse of two hours. The deceased, owing to his occupation, was well known to every one in the district, and lie was highly esteemed, llis loss is deeply deplored by all in the settlement.— D. Cross.
