OUR VOLUNTEERS.
The monthly inspection of No. 1 Company Royal 11.R.V. took place last evening. The Engineer Corps, No. 2 Company 11.R.V. and the Thames Rifle Rangers were also present. No. 1 Royal and the T.R.R. were most numerously represented. About 120 men were on parade. The whole battalion was inarched from the Volunteer Hall to the Cricket Ground, and were put through the manual and platoon exercise, and we must say that we never have witnessed the men go through their drill so well. In firing a volley and in presenting aims we never have seen them do either so creditably heretofore. The greatest fault the men seem to have is in the “ dressing ” when wheeling into line ; but even tins no doubt is owing to the unevenness of the ground. Lieut.-Colonel Ilariugton is expected to arrive and hold his annual inspection during next week, and if the men go through their drill as well as they did last evening, we feel confident that the Colonel will eulogise the battalion in the highest of terms. The Thames Scottisli Corps, Captain Murray, met for parade last evening, at the Thames School. There was a very fair muster, considering that this corps meet for drill every evening until after the annual inspection.
