TELEGRAPH AROUND THE WORLD.

The London Daily News gives, on good authority, a programme by which our continent is to be utilized more than heretofore in the interest of commerce. It says that three lines of telegraphic cable arc about to be laid, under the direction of Mr Cy’rus W. Field. One will be from San Francisco to Honolulu, thence to Midway Island, and thence to \okohama, 5,573 miles. Another will be from Victoria, Vancouver’s Island, to Hakodadi, Japan, thence to Asiatic Russia, communicating with Possiette, which is already connected by" telegraph with St. Petersburg. From Atcha, one of the Aleutian Isles, a line is to go to Yokohama and Shanghai, thus communicating with China, while from Yokohama a line is to go to Niphon, thence to Possiette, Russia. . It is estimated that 8 4G3 miles of wire will be required from San Francisco to Possiette, Russia, by r the first line. By the other line, from Victoria to the same place, about 5,244 miles will be needed. Lines from Honolulu to Australia will join San Francisco and Melbourne, touching at the Fiji Islands ; thence lines will reach New Caledonia and Brisbane, which is already connected with Melbourne, Adelaide, and Port Darwin on the north coast; and a contract has been made for a line from that place to Java. Java is already in communication with India and China.
