The Chairman said the sub-committee bad not been idle, and lie believed the petition was now completed. The petition, which has already been published in our columns, was read by the secretary. Mr Heron moved that the petition as read be adopted. Sir Bkearley seconded the motiou, which was carried unanimously. The Chairman; said he would put it to the meeting whether there should be a name mentioned in the petition, as to the title of the municipality. It had been suggested that the “ Municipality of the Thames ” would be the best title. Mr Tyler thought tin's would be better to be left to the Government. The title of the “ Thames ” was somewhat indefinite, and if anyone suggested “ Grahamstown,” that might bo objected to by those who would prefer “ Shortland.”

Mr Goodall moved that it be left to the Government to give the name. Mr Tyler seconded. Mr Davies moved that the title be tho “ Municipality of Hauraki.” He thought it was the duty of the committee to give the name.

The Chairman concurred, and again suggested that the Municipality of the Thames was the most appropriate designation.

Mr Wallnutt moved that the proposal emanating from the sub-committee should be accepted, and that the title should bo the “ Municipality of the Thames.” Mr Brearley seconded.

Mr Perston suggested that the title should be the “ Municipality of Karaka." The motion to christen the municipality the “Municipality of the Thames," as originally proposed by the sub-committee, was carried.

Mr Tyler said the petition having been adopted, lie would move that it be now banded to Mr Jones for engrossment on deiny. lie (Mr Tyler) did not intend to charge for drafting the petition, but the engrossment would have to be paid for. It was resolved to leave tho matter of engrossment to Mr Tyler, to be done according to bis instructions.

The Chairman said the next step would be to make arrangements for obtaining signatures. Mr Heron suggested that the secretaries to the three Highway Boards should be employed to collect signatures in the several districts of Waiotahi, Kauwaeranga, and Paravvai.

Mr Tyler suggested that the secretary of Parawai should be omitted, it being understood by many members of the committee that the Parawai secretary was opposed to the municipality. Mr Heron moved that Mr Goodall he requested to canvass Parawai. This was agreed to, and the name of Mr Duke was also added to the canvassers.

It was resolved that the secretary should call another meeting as soon as the petition was fully signed, preparatory to its being forwarded to the Governor.

A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
