ALEXANDRA.—DEATH OF ONE OF TODD'S MURDERERS.

Mr Kennedy Hill held his usual bimonthly sale at Ohaupo on Wednesday last. There was a good attendance, but little business done, as in consequence of the long-continued drought feed is getting very scarce. The crops round here are suffering greatly ; if rain does not come soon they will be a complete failure. The Kuiti natives are already short of food. There has been a regular stampede to the liver, old Manuhiri amongst them, seeking for food, such as eels and fresh-water mussels.—Hori, one of the party of Todd’s murderers, is dead. He died at Hauturu ; he was the man that wounded the halfcaste Nopera. It is said by the natives that, the whole of the party will shortly cease to live, as they are all ailing.—Mr SubInspector S. Newall, of the Armed Constabulary in charge of the road party in this district (and who have done some valuable work), has been presented with a valuable gold watch by the Government. It appears that some time since the Government called on all officers in charge of posts to send in a topographical description of the country in their vicinity. Mr Newall’s was the second best sent in, and he has received the above valuable present as his reward. Mr N. is an officer who has risen to his present position iu the foice by his own merit, and all here rejoice in his success, as he is universally esteemed amongst us.— Cross.
