OHINEMURI.

(l ROM OI K OWN UOREESI'ONPKNT). Steam Launch ‘ Fairy.’ December 22. On arrival at the Imperial Hotel, Wood’s Landing, Paoroa, I found great preparations making for the coming Christmas sports. The course for horse-racing is well cleared and in splendid condition. Prizes will be given in accordance with the subscriptions received, and every accommodation is being made by everyone at this settlement to suit the wishes of pleasure-seekers, and if the weather continues fine, we expect all hands to get a jolly time of it. Several steamers are expected as far as Mr Cashell’s Landing, who purposes eventually to erect a substantial way for the convenience of the public ; this is what it should be. Most unfortunately, yesterday, some parties landing at Cashell’s used the Pataka, as is usual by everyone in passing, aud very foolishly lighted a fire in the centre of the building and left it. The result was, of course, a blaze. Had it not been at once seen and communicated to our hospitable Mr Robert Cashed, the whole would have been destroyed, and the gratuitous accommodation lost to the public. This ought to be a caution. At Mr Thorpe’s new residence a good substantial landing-place will he in course of erection after Christmas holidays by Mr John W. Pe; irse, owner of the steam launch 1 Fairy,’ who intends erecting a store for the sto age of merchandize coming up and down the river. Pleasure seekers by the large steamers will have a good opportunity of seeing the beautiful scenery and country along the river, unless any unforseeji stoppage should occur on their arrival at Cashel’s, the little s.l. ‘ Fairy ’ after discharge of her passengers at the Paoroa, will return and take. In tnose landing. The Maoris arc in high glee at the expectation of so much fun about, and seem to he heart and soul in it. Something ought to have been done to entertain To Hira and Mere Kuril at a hall which is expected to be held at the Imperial Hotel, if sufficient friends remain.
