CORRESPONDENCE.

[1 Ve do nnt hold ourselves responsible for the opin ions of our Correspondents. Name and address of the writer must appear on the copy ensure publication.'] To the Editor of tlic THAMES GUARDIAN. Sir, —The question has arisen in my mind as to the reason the Government can have for being so nnxious to hand the Water Works over to a private Company ; can it be that the Government have determined to knock the much talked-of Grand Water Scheme on the head, that a private Company is to be the means of so doing ? lam led to this result from the evident anxiety of our worthy member Dr. Sam, to rush the matter through as quickly as possible. If a Company is so anxious to secure to the Thames a good water supply, why on earth don’t they start one of their own, and leave ours alone ? There is plenty of room, and they have more money than they can spend according to Dr. Sain, and if the Government is anxious to get rid of the responsibility of their work, why don’t they hand the work to the public who have paid for it? But then, the grand scheme would have to be carried out. In conclusion, 1 must remark, it is most extraordinary that Dr. Sam should be here, and he seems to feel it himself, for he remarked the circumstance at the public meeting, and I think it a pity if a private Company without any aid from Government is not formed for the purpose of placing Di Sam and J lack ay at the head of them, as I am sure they are quite fit to be there and not where they are. —I am, &c., Pro Bono Publico.
