POLICE COURT.— Yesterday.
Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M. Alleged Robbery at the Tabard Hotel. —A very respectable looking man named Henry Meach, was charged with stealing from the Tararu Hotel on or about the 24th March last, a piece of copper ore, weighing 71bs. valued at £7, the property of Richard Heales. The accused pleaded not guilty.—The Sub-Inspector stated that from enquiries made by the police in this matter, it appeared thatthe prisoner was not the real offender, who, however, had been traced, and for whose apprehension a warrant had been issued. He would ask that the prisoner be discharged.—The accused was discharged accordingly. The circumstances under which the robbery is said to have taken place were mentioned in our issue of yesterdry. The piece of copper produced is valued nominally at 75., is esteemed by the prosecutor as being worth considerable more as a curiosity. It is the produce of one of the copper ihines near Lake Ontario and is certaiuly a singular looking specimen. The man supposed to be the real culprit in this matter, will in all probability be brought up in a few days, and the evidence of Meach used against him.
