The Thames Hospital Committee will be glad to learn that the vote of ,£I,OOO on the estimates for the building fund will be appropriated for general purposes. This will enable the Committee to carry on effectively during the year. The Provincial Secretary, a correspondent informs us, expressed his willingness to do so ; and also his readiness to include the purchase of an hospital site at the Thames, in the vote for the purchase of a cemetery and public recreation ground. Of course, the sum of £SOO proposed for the latter vote will not lie sufficient for these purposes ; but as £5,000 is set down for “ opening and development of new goldfields,” no difficulty will be experienced in reducing this item by £2,000, and applying it to the hospital site, cemetery, and public recreation ground. The object we had in view will have been in a great measure obtained, should the arrangement we have indicated be carried out.
