The Thames Scottish Volunteers mustered in great force yesterday evening for drill. After drill, a meeting was held. Several honorary members were proposed and elected. A letter was also read from the secretary of the Mechanics’ Institute, requesting the members of the corps to give a concert in aid of the building funds of the Institute. It was decided to acquiesce in the secretary’s request, and give a concert on the 21st inst.

Wc understand that the employees.in the Caledonian mine contemplate presenting Mr Rowe, the retiring manager, with a suitable testimonial on his quitting the responsible office of manager to this leading company. There was a crowded audience yesterday at the Police Court in anticipation of hearing the Caledonian specimen stealing case. As soon as the court house was opened a simultaneous rush was made to the door by a large number of persons who had been standing outside ; and one, if not more, were crushed in effecting an entry. The curiosity of the bystauders was again only partly satisfied, as the ense, after being partly gone into, was adjourned until next court day.
