POLICE COURT.— Tuesday.
Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M. Drunkenness. Peter Merry, _ charged with being drunk and incapable in Greystreet, pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s, with the alternative of 24 hours’ imprisonment in case of non-payment. Desertion. —Joseph Tyler Morgan was charged with unlawfully, and without reasonable cause, deserting his wife, Elizabeth Morgan, and leaving her without means of upport. —Mr. Dodd said he appeared foxdefendant, or rather for both parties, and that a settlement had been cifected whereby defendant was to allow his wife 10s per week.—The wife being asked by the R.M. if she consented to this, said yes, if there was any security that the money would be paid, but she would rather his Worship would settle it. —The II.M. said she must do [one of two things, either settle it herself, or let the Court adjudicate.—Mr. Dodd stated that the wife was in receipt of wages of £1 a week as servant at an hotel.—The R.M. said this was so much to her credit, as it proved her to be an industrious woman. Ultimately an order was made for the payment of 10s per week.
