GIFT AUCTION.

Last night the Naval Drill Shed was visited by large numbers of ladies and gentlemen to view the goods exposed for sale at the auction to-day. The shed was very tastefully decorated with flags, flowers, evergreens, &c., and the various articles for sale were artistically displayed on tables, and hung on the walls of the room. To enumerate the articles would be a matter of the utmost impossibility ; sufficient be it to says that no man can want anything with which he cannot get supplied, and as to the ladies, those who have babies, can supply them with clothing for the remainder of their existence as babies, and for those who have none, there are articles of use and ornament which would be sure to tempt the most hard-hearted and economical to invest. Two very useful articles we cannot pass over ivitliout comment, one a tine sponge bath, at present full of flowers, forming the centre piece of the refreshment stall, and the other a handsome bassinet, completely furnished with counterpane, blankets, pillow, &c., which would make a nice ornament for any house, and might be useful some time or other. Great credit is due to tho ladies and gentlemen who have so nicely arranged everything for the public to view, and we feel very confident that a good sum will be added to the Church funds, there being many articles of value amongst the gifts. The sum of £0 10s Gd was taken at the doors, aud £3 18s 3d at the refreshment stall. ’ This certainly is a very satisfactory commencement.
