SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
A serious accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Una company’s ground, to a lad named James May. As he was proceeding to the smithy with his tools, a huge log, by some means at present unascertained, rolled down from the hill, and fell upon him, from a height of about 80 feet, crushing him and inflicting serious injury. He was at once conveyed to the hospital, and Drs. Lethbridge and Trousseau were in immediate attendance. The state of the patient, who was quite unconscious when brought to the hospital, precluded a thorough examination of the injuries sustained. All that skill, cure, and attention ctuld do for the patient was done, but up to a late hour last evening he laid in a very precarious state. Mine accidents have been sadly frequent of late, and the necessity of the greatest caution being exercised by all parties concerned in mining operations is every day becoming more apparent.
