POLICE COURT.— Yesterday.

Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M. Drunkenness. —Edward E. York, on bail, charged with being drunk, did not appear, and the amount of his recognizance was ordered to be forfeited. Lunacy. —James Logan was brought up on remand, charged on suspicion of lunacy. Mr Bullen produced a medical certificate from Dr. Lethbridge, stating that the man was in a fit state to he at large, and he was consequently discharged. The R.M. said it appeared excessive drinking was the cause of Logan’s mental derangement, from which he had now apparently recovered by the care of the medical officer and police, and he (the Resident Magistrate) hoped Logan would avoid excess of drink for the future. Vagrant Horses. —Thomas Waite, charged with permitting two horses to wander at large in Richmond, was fined 2s 6d and costs. Extension of Licenses. —Charles L. Manuel, of the European Hotel, applied for an extension of his license to Tararu, on the occasion of the Caledonian sports, on the 30th instant. The application was granted. James Senior of the Donegal Anus, made a similar application, which •was also granted on the usual conditions.
