THE RECENT ALLEGED ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE AT ONEHUNGA.
(from our own correspondent) Samuel Atkinson was charged at the Oneliuuga Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, with attempting to commit suicide. Dr. It. J. Nicholson deposed that on the Gth October he was called to the Manukau Hotel. The prisoner was reclining on a bed, and suffering from a gunshot wound in the left side, just below the ribs. It was about eight iudies long. The flesh was all blown away. He acknowledged to me that he had inflicted the injuries on himself, and said “lam afraid I have not done it effectually this time. I will do it, and more effectually next time, as the devil dressed as a policeman is continually following me.” He was removed to the hospital. I do not think the illusions under which he vr«* suffering were the effect of drink. The further hearing of the case was adjourned for a week, in order that the prisoner might undergo a medical exaini" naticu.
