WAIOTAHI DISTRICT BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was held at the Governor Bowen Hotel yesterday afternoon. Present—(Mr. Davis in the chair) and Messrs. Warmoll, J.P.; Rowe, Dowdcn, Anthony, Simpson, Engineer; and Dean, Secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Dowden proposed that Mr. Warmoll, whose name had been struck off for nonattcndancc, be re-elected. Mr. Anthony seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr. Worm all give notice of motion for Wednesday week next, in reference to the formation of Waiotahi and Tararu districts into a municipality. The Engineer reported the completion of the works in Abraham-street. A letter was read from the Superintendent of the Fire Brigade in Auckland relative to a hose and other utensils required by the Thames Brigade, stating that the Auckland Brigade had no more hose than required for their own use. The use of trucks instead of horse reels was suggested, and it was decided to call for tenders for copper rivetted fire hose, 3 inches inside, measurement according to specification. Mr. Warmoll stated that lie had obtained patterns of helmets and uniform used in the Australian Colonies by the fiic brigades, which would be laid before tbc Board at next meeting. The Chairman stated that ho had seen Mr. Hawkswood in Auckland, in reference to the hydrants, and that Mr. Hawkswood was unable to make them. It was stated that Messrs. Price and Co., of the Thames, had offered to make them for £8 each, in brass, and it was agreed to order them. The Chairman stated that he had been unable to get a steel bell of 1201bs. woight in Auckland. The Secretary was instructed to order from T. and S. Morrin one of.IGBIbs. weight, of the same metal as that used by the Auckland Fire Brigade. Lanterns were also ordered for the use of the Brigade. The Chairman and Mr. Anthony reported that they had visited the Tararu road, and found that the tramway had greatly encroached upon it. The road in some places was not more than 14 feet wide, whereas according to the minutes of a meeting held on 4th October, tho width of the road was to have been 27 feet. The matter was referred to the Engineer A letter was read from R. Graham, Esq., offering to give £lO towards the formation of Davy street. The Secretary was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Graham’s
letter, with thanks, and to say that ns soon as the street was dedicated, the work should be carried on. Permission was granted to Messrs. J. Briton and W. Cooihbe to erect verandahs. It was stated that drain pipes to the value of £97 had been received from Mr. W. Carder, and stacked on a vacant allotment next the engineer’s house, and that £lO had been paid for freight. It was stated also that several of the pipes were broken and cracked, and the Secretary was requested to write for others in their place, on the receipt of which the account would be passed.
