COROMANDEL.

(from our own correspondent) Nov. 20. . The British, a lease of ten acres on private property, adjoining the Ravenstock, with which companv it is likely to amalgamate, have cut two small leaders in the first twenty feet of their drive, and from both they have had a good prospect. The Peep of Day tunnel is now in about 65 feet. The country is very hard, and progress consequently slow. The Swedish Crown leader is expected to be cut at 100 feet, and that of the DayDawn (from which a splendid yield was had at a higher level) at about 200. The Argo hare been prospecting their ground for the last two months, and have come across two or three fair looking leaders, but have not yet discovered that from which the specimens found on the s"i'facc must have come. The Harbour View’s low level drive is in about 100 feet, with but little change in the country through which they have been travelling. The Conquering Hero, still at work at the low level tunnel to catch the main leader, which they expect to do before the end of the week. They cut through a small vein on Saturday which showed gold. The Bonshaw G.M.C., peg and peg with the Conpuering Hero, commenced active operations this morning. The Murphy’s Hill only passed five tons through the Nil Desperanduin battery, the return was lOoz ldwt. Their low level drive is now in 120 feet, and they expect to cut the intersection of two leaders that arc dipping towards each other at about 170 feet. The stuff just crushed was taken from a new leader at a higher level, and the trial lias proved highly satisfactory.

The Coromandel G.M.C. are taking good stone from their low level drive, and stoping out from the old workings next the Queensland (new lease) a parcel is being sent to the Whnkaroa battery to be tested, but is not likely to be operated on this week, as tin’s battery, as well as the New Zealand Company’s, is fully employed crushing for the Tokatea Gold Mining Company. The Masonic are as busy as hoes stoping out from both levels, and the body of stone they have to work upon, is something surprising, for curiosity I paced the width of the leader this afternoon, in the cross drive upper level, and I made it 25 feet; with this amount of quartz even half an ounce to the ton would pay well, and I look upon this company, as about the most promising and durable on the range. The Pukctutn main drive is now in about 90 feet, the ground which lias been very bard throughout is getting a little easier, but they have still to advance about 50 feet, before they can hope to reach the Erin’s Hope run of gold The Victory lias amalgamated with the remaining portion of the Giant, and a company is the consequence, with Mr Pittar as legal manager. Tile return from the Venus’s stuff wa 20oz to 20 tons. Two new leases were pegged off to-day in a new locality, viz., behind the courthouse, and I expect to have to report others about the same place before the end of the week. CRICKET. November 18th. The first regular match of the season (Upper against Lower Township) was played by members of the Coromandel Cricket Club on Wednesday last, and as time did not, allow of its being played out, the Upper Township were declared the winners, having headed their opponents in the first innings. As no detailed account of this match seems to have reached any of the journals either at the Thames or in Auckland I send you the score, as I am certain it will prove interesting to your cricketing readers, more especially to those who compose the team that are to visit us next month, and fight their battle over again.
