Per Grevillk it Co.’s (Reuter’s Agents) Express + AGRICULTURAL SHOW GREAT SUCCESS. GENERAL HOLIDAY. ARRIVAL OF THE ‘MERLIN* FROM FIJI. „ SEVEN NATIVES KILLED BY THE LEVONI. Auckland, 8.30. The New Zealand Agricultural and the Horticultural Society’s Show was held in the Barracks to-day; it was a great success. There were over 400 entries. The Barracks were crowded. The shops and stores, as well as the public offices were closed. Thomas Carr, the driver, of one of Hardington’s ’busses, who drove against a verandah, on the Prince of Wales’ birthday, was fined at the Police Court £5.
The Merlin arrived from Fiji this afternoon, and reports that the natives at Viti Levu are carrying on hostilities. The Mountaineers surprised the town, and killed seven.
