CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The usual monthly meeting of the Central Board of Education, was held on Tuesday afternoon, at the Provincial Government offices. Present: Joseph May, Esq., Deputy Superintendent, in the chair; Messrs \V. j Hurst, H. 11. Lusk, P. A. Phillips, James Clark, and Dr Nicholson. The chairman read a letter from Mr R. J. O’Sullivan, apologising for his absence through indisposition, and regretted that he had been unable to preparo an analysis of the business, but suggested that" if the Board would adjourn to an early date he hoped be would be able to attend. The Board signed the cheques for the expenses acrued since last meeting, and for various grants. On the application for assistance towards the expenses of six pupils, at the Wellington Academy, the sanction of the Board was confirmed.
Another similar application was ordered to stand over.
Dr Nicholson again brought forward his motion, amended: “That no schoolroom, subject to the control of the Education Board, shall be used or occupied as a residence of the teacher, nor shall it be used for any purpose other than the ordinary teaching of pupils attending, without the sanction of the local school committee of the district being first obtained, and such committee shall record such permission upon its minutes, provided that nothing therein contained shall be constructed to authorise the school committee to interfere with the customary school hours, in such school-room.” After some discussion, the motion was agreed to. —Morning News.
