RETURN UNOPPOSED OF MR. FARMER FOR CITY WEST. Per Grkyille & Co.’s (Renter's Agents) Express Auckland, 1.35 p.m Mr. Farmer was at noon tliis day returned unopposed as a member of the Provincial Council for the City West. He was proposed by Mr. Thomas Russell, and seconded'by Mr. Henry Ellis. The proceedings lasted about three minutes. At the Police Court this morning, Catherine Douglas was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for having stolen two decanters from an'Hotel. Robert Hay, for having stolen two trays, was sentenced to one months’ imprisonment. Susan Mahoney was charged with stealing sixpence from her master, Alexander Barr, publican. Prisoner, when interrogated, said she obtained money from her brother at the Thames. The case was dismissed. In the sharemarket Caledonians are quoted at £BO ; Thames, £lB '; Tookeys, £2B ; Otagos, £3 15s.
