COROMANDEL.

(from our own correspondent.) November 6. Mining matters have been very brisk during the past week, the recent rich finds in the Tokatea giving a fresh impetus- to mining operations throughout the district. Many new claims have been pegged out, and leases applied for in the neighbourhood of the Tokatea range. Several new claims have also been taken up in the township ofjWyndyardtown, but permission will have to be obtained from the owners of the land before mining operation are commenced. The Tokatea are getting out very rich gold again. About 15 cwt of specimens have been taken out since Monday last. The new stopes in the upper levels are turning out very well, yielding rich specimens, and very good general stuff. The new leader in the lower level is also looking well, some rich specimens have been met with, and the general stuff shows gold freely. The new low level in the Brunswick ground has been commenced, and will be pushed on vigorously Nearly 200 tons of very good general stuff were sent down to the batteries during the past week. Shares are in request consequent on the new find. The Royal Oak are stoping out in the upper workings, and are getting nice golden stone. The general stuff looks very well, and will turn out quite as rich as the stuff now being crushed at the Nil Desperandum battery. The Two Georges have cut a very nice leader on the boundary of the Pride of Tokatea, from which some very rich specimens have been taken. A main drive will be put in at once on the leader, and preparations made for an early crushing. The Victory and Three Kings, adjoining the above claim, expect to cut the same leader in a few days, and are -pushing forward their main drive as fast as they can. The ground being pretty soft, good progress is made. The Peep o’ Day and Day Dawn are driving their main tunnel on the tramway level. They have not yet cut the Swedish Crown leader, but expect to have it in hand by the end of the week. The Masonic have been getting out general stuff during the week. There are about 100 tons in paddock ; 50 tons will be sent down to the Whakaroa battery this week. A return of loz. to the ton is expected, and would pay handsomely. riio Wavcrley are driving along the leader in the upper workings, and are preparing for an early and large crushing. The return from the three ton lot latterly crushed at tho Nil Desperandum gives great satisfaction, indicating, as it does, the payable nature of the ground. The Golden Point have opened out at the bottom of the winze, on the large leader. The prospects met with are considered very encouraging. Some rich specimens have been taken out, and the general stuff is expected to give a return of at least sozs. to the ton. Shares in this company are in request at good prices. The Nil Desperandum are sinking a winze to connect with tho lower workings. They expect to break through during the week, when stoping out will be at once commenced. Murphy’s Hill Company cut a rich leader last week, and are now putting in a lower level. About 201bs. of very good specimens were taken out, and the general stuff should give a return of 3ozs. to 4 ozs. to the ton. The Whakaroa Company are pushing forward their main tunnel vigorously, and hope to have a good crushing before long. The New Zealand Company’s Battery has been crushing all week for the Tokatea; about 100 tons were put through. The stuff crushed showed well, over 100 lbs. of amalgam were taken off the plates. The Nil Desperandum Battery has been engaged all week on the Royal Oak stuff, cleaning up will take place to-morrow. A large return is expected. The Whakaroa Battery put through about 50 tons last week for the Tokatea, about 501bs. of amalgam were taken off the plates. The Masonic will send down 50 tons to this battery to-morrow.
