FROM THE SOUTH. (from our own correspondent) VIA NAPIER. ■ 0 Wellington, Nov. 3, 8.30 p.m. The Committee in the House of Representatives on the exemption clauses of the Customs tariff, respecting distillery apparatus, dock material, and agricultural castings, were struck out. The Civil Service Act and supplementary estimates were passed. Resolutions affirming the necessity for constructing coal tramways were passed. The Legislative Council disagreed on the Public Revenues Bill. Two sons of Mr. Turnbull, merchant, Wellington, were drowned whilst bathing. Stamp Duties, Customs Tariff Amendment Bills, rend a first time.. The new tariff is to come into operation on the 10th inst., noc the 20th. Yogel said that he wished to checkmate large orders sent to Melbourne to anticipate the new duties.
