GRAHAMSTOWN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
The anniversary services of the Wesleyan Sunday School were held yesterday. In the morning the Rev. J. J. Lewis from Auckland, preached on the text “ Feed my Lambs,” and delivered a most excellent discourse. The Rev. B. C. Butland gave an admirable address in the afternoon on the life of the Saviour, and urging the example he left us that we should follow in his steps. There was a large attendance on each occasion. In the evening the Church was densely crowded, when the Rev. J. Lewis again occupied the pulpit, and preached a very eloquent sermon on the parable of the “ Prodigal Son.” I The language used in thisbeautiful parable I was, the preacher truly observed, always came to the hearts of those who heard it. When preached to the most hardened and abandoned sinners it rarely failed to produce a deep impression. llow many a son, said Mr. Lewis, weary of parcutal authority has left his paternal home and after, perhaps, enjoying the pleasure of sin for a season came back heart-sick and repentant. What an example of filial disobedience, subsequent repentance, and parental love was afforded in this parable which was typical of the love of God towards his children, notwithstanding their disobedience. The necessity of repentance was eloquently pointed out, and the willingness with which the Father will ever receive his penitent sons who earnestly seek his forgiveness was descanted upon in a most impressive manner. Collections were made at the close of each service, and the amount of ,■£2l was collected. It was announced that, in the place of the usual lecture on Wednesday evening next, the Rev. J. Buller will preach a sermon on the death of Bishop Patteson. For refinement of horse-thief strategy, off ; to Texas. Down there these gentlemen go l in gangs, headed by a pretended minister of 1 yeligion.
