A murder has , been committed at Kawhia, by Hone Kiwi, a chiet of Ngatimahutu tribe, on a man of the Ngatiapakura tribe, supposed to be a great wizard. Deceased had boasted that his incantations had been the cause of the death of several persons, and of the'insanity of Tawhiao’s wife. He offered to cure Tawhiao’s wife if she were placed in his care. It was found out that he contemplated improper designs. Hone Kiwi thought it would be a good thing to rid the place of subh a fellow, and therefore shot him, to the great joy of all Kawhia.
