SERIOUS AFFRAY AT WANGAPOA.

Snn-fNSPECTOU Bm.lM, accompanied by constables, left' the Thames at an tarly hour yesterday morning, in consequence of information received of a serious affray having occurred at Wangapoa. All our readers are aware that serious disputes have existed for Some time past between Messrs. Harris' and Craig as to ' the right to certain logs in the creek, which have formed the subject matter of milch 'litigation. We hear that a few ago three boats belonging to Craig ywere sunk by Harris, and that another boat containing Craig and a party of men in his employ wept to mcet a raft of dogs -rwhich was expected to come down the harbour/.in the Harris interest. On the . ' meeting of the rival boats it is said that a 1 ! boat hook was thrown by a native called Wirihana from one boat to the ! other, which entered the. body 1 l of one of the men" on board the latter a little below the region of the heart, and inflicted a serious wound. We have apt, been qble so far to ascertain who first commenced hostilities. The wounded man is now in charge of : Dr Payne, who went over from Coromandel to the scene of action immediately on receipt of the intelligence. Mr Craig, senior, has been arrested on a charge of threatening to shoot Mr Harris, junior, during an altercation which took place prior to this transaction, and the case was to have been ’‘heard before' Mr Warden Iveddell yesterday, but was remanded. MrMacCormick, we understand, has arrived at Coromandel in connection with the case, and on the return : pf Mr Bullen and the constabulary we shall iu all probability be able to 'place > tbe full particulars before our readers of this additional chapter in the history of Harris v. Craig. , The Sub-Inspector of Police called at our office last evening to say that he had returned from Coromandel, and that there is no truth ip a rumour which readied town, to which, however, we' gave no credence—that Mr Harris, junior, had been shot and wounded by Mr Craig, senior." The rumour, no doubt, arose from the fact of Mr Craig having been arrested some short time since on the -?fe?.rg c of threatening to shoot Harris, junior, which charge was investigated before theR.M. at Coromandel yesterday and was dismissed.
