WAIOTAHI AND KAUERANGA DISTRICT BOARDS.

A joint conference of these Boards was to have been held at the Governor Bowen Hotel, yesterday at 4 p.m., and at the hour named the following gentlemen were present:—Waiotahi Board, Messrs. Anthony and Davies; Kaucranga Board, Messrs. Burgess, Scott, and Walnutt; Mr. Simpson (engineer) and Mr. , Dean (secretary) were also present. Mr. Davies said lie had only just arrived from Auckland with Mr. Rowe, who had to go at once to the Caledonian mine, and it would be very inconvenient for them to attend this evening. He would therefore ask the other gentlemen present if they would consent to an adjournment until next morning atten o’clock. This was assented to, aud the meeting adjourned. The principle subject for discussion, wo believe, is the powers possessed by the District Boards to grant permission to construct street tramways’. We understand that Mr. Tyler has been consulted upon the matter, and has expressed his opinion that the Boards have no such power, which can only be conferred by the Legislature. This opinion is in accordance with the ruling in the celebrated Train Case, in England, which is doubtless familiar to many of our readers.
