MINING BOARD.
A special meoting of the i.. Board tpok Dlaco last night, for the purpose of taking into consideration the new Mining District Bill, now before the General Assembly at Wellington. Besides Mr. Alexander Hays (chairman of the Board), all the members were present, with the exception of Mr. Daniel Garvey, who is at present in Auckland. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and'confirmed, The Secretary explained that the present meeting had been called in accordance with a requisition to the Chairmaan, signed by three- members, as provided for in the Bye-Laws for standing orders. The Chairman roinarked that it might be too late to mend matters with regard to the new regulations. He thought it strange that only one copy of the new Bill had been forwarded for the use of the Board. A After considerable discussion, in which Messrs Wilkinson, Daly, and Fairbairn took part, it was moved by Mr WILKINSON, seconded by Mr Dalt, and carried, “ That this Board is of opinion that the proposed Gold Mining Districts Bill, 1871, is injurious to the interests of the country at large, and oppressive to the mining interests, as it tends to lock up the grouud from bona fide occupation, makes no provision for trial by assessors, placing absolute powers into the : hands of the Warden and Inspectors, and deprives the miners of privileges they now enjoy under the Miner’s Rights. Also,.trat this Board considers that the Bill; as it now stands, ought not to be passed. It was next moved by Mr E. H Power, seconded by Mr J. D. WICKHAM, and carried “ That a petition be drawn up, embodying the former resolution, and specifying the objections to the Bill." The Board then adjourned to this evening, at the usual hour.
