THE NATIVE DEPUTATION TO THE NORTH.
The deputation of natives appointed by the To Kuiti meeting to wait upon the Ngapulii tribe, for the purpose of securing the cooperation'of that tribe in preparing for the great native meeting shortly to be held, returned to town yesterday from the Bay of Islands. Their mission has in every respect been an encouraging one. As anticipated, the Ngapuhis were most willing to enter heartily into any movement which was likely to increase the friendship between the races, and the fact that the Governor has been invited to attend the meeting' formed sufficient reason for a willingness on their part to do all in their power to make it a success. Yesterday five members of the Ngapulii tribe accompanied the Kingite deputation into town, the chief Mangonui being theleader of the party.- The action taken by the Kingites in sending a deputation North was an act of conciliation | and the whole of the preliminary steps augur well for tliG accomplishment of most impoitant lesults bearing upon the future welfare of the country and its permanent pacification.— D. S. Cross.
