CHURCH MEETING.

A numerously attended church meeting was held last evening, at the City Hall, the Right Rev. Dr. Oowie, Bishop of Auckland, occupying the chair. Several papers were read, the first of which was by the Ven. Archdeacon Maunsell, LLD., the subject being “The Maori Mission.” After some discussion. A. Boardman, Esq., read a paper on the supply and maintenance of clergymen; The following papers were also read : By the Rev. C. M. Nelson, 8.A., on Christian burials ; by H. H. Lusk, Esq., on the Melanesian Mission ; and by the Rev. David Jones, 8.A., on Education. The papers were all ably written, and they were well discussed by different gentlemen present. At the close of the discussion the bishop announced that plates would be held at the door for the purpose of defraying expenses, and he hoped the audience would look upon the meeting in the light of a penny reading, and each contribute a penny. The appeal was Yery heartily responded to, although very few pennies were deposited amongst the silver presented. The proceedings terminated with the benediction pronounced by the bishop. —Morning News.
