THE THAMES WHARF.

, -e. A deputation consisting of Messrs J. S. Macfarlahe, TVMorrin, Blcazard, Hanniford, and Captain Soutcr, waited upon His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent, at the Provincial Government office, this raor--nipg;, to impress upon the Executive the importance of setting about the erection of the Thames wharf forthwith. •The deputation were courteously received by His Honor the Deputy-Superin-tendent, and they proceeded to state their case which was in brief this. The work they sought to have executed was one of deep necessity. Twenty-five vessels were lying.at the Thames the othcr day, with crews on an average of eight in number, and they were kept idle for want of wharf accommodation. A contract had been entered into for the erection of th,e„wharf at a cost of £2,674, but the contractor had thrown up the work, and forfeited his deposit. It had been ascertained" that the work could not be done for less than £4,000, and the deputation were willing to undertake it, if the Governmant would give them the £2,574 abandoned by the late contractor, and would allow this to be made to £4,000, either by vote of Council or by revenue arising from the wharf itself. Mr May and Mr Hurst being the only two members of the Executive present, they took time to consider the proposal, and to bring it under the notice of their colleagues. The deputation thanked his Honor and withdrew. —Evening Star.
