During the past week business has been rather quiet, although mauy outside stocks have been in fair demand. The general tone, however, of the market has been healthy. Buyers are not scarce, but seem inclined to hold off for a time, and wait for a rise before investing. The following has been the weekly range of prices :—Caledoniaus from £lO5 to £ll7 10s and £l2O ; Thames £2l to £23 and £23 10s ; Tookey £27, £2B, very little business done, there being few sellers; Nonpareils £5 15s, £5 12s Gd, fair amount of business done ; Waitematas lGs to £ 1, in good demand in the beginning of the week, few buyers on Saturday ; Alburnias £6, £0 2s Gd, in good demand, closing firm at £6 2s Gd ; Bright Smiles changing hands freely at £3 2s Gd to £3 5s ; Golden Calf £2 17s Gd, little business done ; City of Dunedin £5; Central Italys in good demand at £2 7s Gd and £2 10s, few sellers ; Shotovers 10s to 17s Gd, very few changing hands awaiting f g tlier news from the mine ; Ballarat and Rising Sun 10s Gd ; Multum in Parvo 12s6d; Moanataiari £3 17s Gd ; All Nations £5 10s to £5 14s; Ruby ss; Golden Lion in fair demand at 6s to Gs Gd ; Italians 8s Gd ; Evening Star 2s 6d to 4s, closing prices 3s and 3s Gd ; New Caledonia 9s : Highlaud Chief os Gd ; Messengers 6s ; Flagship 4s Gd and ss; Standard 3s, changing hands pretty freely, holders looking for higher rates as crushing is about to take place ; Bird in Hand 7s Gd, few sales; Smiling Beauty 5s to 5s Gd, buyers at lower rates ; Sous of Freedom £5, £5 2s Gd, to £5 ss, in good demand at lowest quotation; Felix 7s, few sellers. Many of the outside claimsarecoming into more prominent notice, and some very good returns have come in from crushings lately taken place. Mr. Gudgeon sold on Saturday a draught horse, £l9 19s; jams, 7s per dozen ; oranges, 8s ; potatoes, 5s ; bacon, 7d ; 20 shares in the Thames Gas Company, £4 4s. Mr. D. J. O’Keeffe offered for sale on Saturday three very superior cows (two in calf), but the reserve price put upon them by the owner was not reached. An allotment at the corner of Abraham street and the Beach was also submitted to public competition, but was withdrawn, the reserve price not being reached. Mr. Dowden reports having sold on Saturday sugar (bags) per lb s)d; jam, Gs 9d, second quality Peacock’s Gs 3d ; preservtd salmon 14s; soap, box, 1 cwt, Melbourne, yellow, 28s ; candles, Prices, Is, Brandons Is ; tea, .)-chests, 1 Constance,’ 2s 2d ; green do 2s Gd per lb ; port wine, per case per doz 21s; keiosinc, 100 cases Devoe’s, at 2s 9d; potatoes, £4 per ton.
