(from our own correspondent.) Auckland, 8.59 a.m. It is reported that Mr W. liowe retires from the management of the Caledonian mine at the end of the year. The Auckland Rowing Clnb met tonight, and decided to challenge the Thames Club, the match to come off in September. It was also determined to send a challenge to the Christchurch Club, provided sufficient funds could be raised. The 1 Star of the South’ has sailed. Great anxiety is felt for the safety of the ‘ Crest of the Wave,’ due from Napier. The ‘ Chrishna,’ barque, has sailed for Newcastle.
