ARRIVAL OF THE EARQUE ‘BRITON’ FROM SYDNEY.’ (from our own correspondent.) Sydney, October 5. Dr Thomas Scard, of Balmain, died yesterday while under the influence of chloroform, which was administered to him for the purpose of performing a difficult operation. There is no blame attached to the doctors who administered the drug. Martin Kenny has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for highway robbery. Frederick Ratten has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for embezzlement. It is the intention of the Government to employ the boys of the train-ing-ship ‘ Vernon’ in the cultivation of the gardens at Cockatoo Island. Auckland, 9 p.m. The barque ‘ Frowning Beauty’ arrived in harbor this afternoon. The sharemarket is dull. Caledonians arc selling at £105; Waitcmatas in demand at 17s; and Thames at £2l 10s and £22. AWFULLY SUDDEN DEATH. A telegram was received here last night, stating that Mr Albert Cohen suddenly expired last night, at seven o’clock. Mr Cohen was well known and respected both on the Thames and in Auckland.
