CALEDONIAN ACCIDENT.

T*o the Editor of the THAMES GUARDIiX. Sir,—l paid a visit to tlie Caledonian mine, and there beheld the effects of the latest accident that happened to the engine in the breakage on the shaft and plumber block. I can only reconcile myself to one idea, that it lias the appearance of carelessness. lam not alone in my opinion. Many engineers and others acquainted with this class of machinery have come to the same conclusion. It is most extraordinary and curious that breakages should occur, when, as I have been told, that the reef in the chamber showed signs of the precious metal. Of course, I cannot vouch for tlie above information, but still it can only be taken for what it is worth.—l am, &c., Wonder. Grahamstown, Oct. 14, 1871.
