No. 2 COMPANY THAMES RIFLE VOLUNTEERS. It will be remembered by many of our readers that a handsome silver cliallengo cup was presented by Lieut. Hazard to the above company to be competed for monthly, subject to the following conditions : Ranges, 400, 500, and 600 yards ; position, any ; number of shots at each range, live ; targets, Wimbledon ; Government arms and ammunition. And that the first competitor winning tha same five times should be entitled to hold the same as a prize for ever. This was considered a feat likely to extend over some considerable period, and encourage a spirit of competition in the company, but yesterday’s firing terminated in the victory of Private Hoskins, who for the fifth time carried of the laurels. Private Hoskins has competed on seven occasions out of eleven, has made the highest score four times consecutively, and averaged 42 points through the competition, his highest score on one occasion being 48, and lowest 40. The following members of the corps have held the cup as follows : Captain Barnett 3, Sergeant Small j. Sergeant Scarfe ... ... ... 1. Private Hopkins 1. Private Hoskins ... 5. .Yesterday the weather was extremely windy and lowering, and the shooting concluded with the following result:—
