MINING MATTERS.

THAMES SHAREMARKET. During the past week there has been a great.- deal of fluctuation in the share-market,-as far fts regards the leading stocks. On Monday morning the market opened rather dull—Caledonians at Ll2O, Thames L 23, Tookeys L 29, but owing principally to a breakage in the Caledonian pumps, and the consequent flooding of the lower workings of the mine, shares receded •--till- they: reached about LlO2 10s. jAfc.soou, however,-as -the pumps got to wriik r aud the water was gradually cleared out of the shaft, stocks became much firmer, and on Friday had reached LI 15, and when on Saturday it became known that good gold was seen in No. 1 winze, on the specimen leader, shares were soon quoted at LI2O, and were sold as high as L 122. The market closed with buyers rit Ll2O, sellers holding f*r advanced rates. There has been also a great demand for Bright Smiles towards the end of the week ; on Monday they were quoted at L2 55., whilst on Friday and Saturday, owing to the good show at the crushing machine, they rose quickly as high as L 3 10s. The following are the latest prices of stock : Caledonians, Lll7, Ll2O, L 122, buyers at L 120; Tookeys, L 29 ; Thames, L 23 10s. ; Nonpareils, L 5 12s. Gd., buyers; All Nations, L 6; Bright Smile®, L 3, L 3 2s. 6d., L 3 55., L 3 10s., buyers still unsatisfied ; Handand - Band, os. 6d, sellers 9s. 6d. ; Alburnias, L 5 155., buyers. Business rather brisker than last few days.
