WAIOTAHI HIGHWAY BOARD.
A special meeting of the above Board was Held at the Governor Bowen Hotel yestciday. Present, :—Mess.s W. Davies (clnLman), A. Anthony, and W. Dowden. Business :—To consider lei tor dated October 5.. h, 1871, received from his Honor the Supe.iutendent of Auckland, on the closing of Upper Owen-street. The following lexer was read by the Chairman :
“ Superintendent’s Office, “ Auckland, sth October, 1871. “ Sir, —1 have the honour to inform you that it is the intention of Government to close up Owen-street upon obtaining the dedication of Coromandel-street subject to the consent of your Board being obtained to the closing of Owen-street. I have, therefore, to request that you will be good enough to forward an agreement in writing conveying the assent of your Board to the proposed abeiation. I understand that no object ion exists. “ I have the honour to be, sir, “ Your most obedient servant, “W. J. Hurst, “ For the Superintendent. “ The Chairman of the Waiotahi District Board, Graharnstown.” Mr Anthony moved, Mr Dowden seconded, and it was resolved —“ That this Board assents to the proposed c’osing of Upper Owen-street and the epening of Coromandel-street ; that this Board wonld direct the especial attention of his Honor to the new houses lately erected on the Hue oc Coromandel-street, and request him >o cause the end of that street adjoining GoMon C.own-Siieet to be widened as much as possible. Tin's Boaid would also remind his honor that several pe’ur'ss’ous have been granted to venous companies and others .o eicct quartz paddocks and shoots, lav down tramways, &e., which will have to be provided for before permanently c’osing up the street, as this Board must not be left open to any liability.” An application from Mr C. F. Corlett, publisher of the Thames Guardian,. to eicct a. post and board to affix a newspaper lO at the corner of Albert and Davystieets was g’anted.
THAMES SIIAREMARKET.. The following were the ruling pi ices up to last night:—Caledonians, Lll2 10s., Llls, L 717 so’lers, closing buyers. Llls ; Thames, L 22 10s., L 23, closing sellers L 23 10s.; Tookeys, L2B to L 2 9; Nonparei’s, L 5 12s. 6G. to L 5 15s. ; All Nations, L 6 ; Bright Siniles, L2 10s., L2 L2 12s. Gd., L2 155., closing sellers L 3; Bird-:n-Hand, 7s. Gd. to Bs. 6d. buyers, sabers at advanced lates; Waitematas, buyers Bs.; Smiling Beautys, 4s. Gd. to 55.; Albumins, L 5 10s., buyers; City of Dunedin, L 5 ; Vn'cans, L 9 10s.; Highland Chiefs, Felix, Lowland Lass, no material change on former rates. There was a brisk demand for several stocks, and the maiket on the whole had an improved tone.
