Geraldine Terminating Building Society, —Members are reminded that an extraordinary general meeting of the Geraldine Terminating Building Society will be held at the secretary’s office at 8 o’clock on Monday evening, to finally adopt the rules.

The Governor and Party. Lord Glasgow and party arrived at Opononi, Hokianga, and were saluted by 17 guns from Mr John Webster’s eight-pounder battery. A large number of natives gave a dance of welcome. His Excellency was the guest of Mr Webster till Christmas.

The Prohibition League. —The Prohibition League at Christchurch has written to the Minister of Justice expressing indignation at the utterances of Mr Hawkins, S.M , at Clutha, and asking the Minister to remove him. In reply, the Minister declined to remove Mr Hawkins, and stated that in his opinion ib would be highly undesirable for the Government to begin punishing magistrates for exercising freedom of speech ou the Bench. A deputation of prohibitionists waited on the Minister yesterday to discuss the position in C niha.

Belfield. The ordinary meeting of the Belfield School Coramitee was held on the 20th iust. Present—Messrs Annals, Russell, Pierce, and the chairman. The master reported the attendance to be very unsatisfactory during the manth. Accounts for school cleaning, £1 15s, and repairs to buildings, (is, were passed for payment. The chairman informed tho meeting that Mr Maslin had promised to give £1 to the prize fund, and that he would distribute the prizes on January Ist, and j;hat Mrs B. R. Macdonald and Miss Clark had kindly gppa.ented the judge the sewing. It was resolved to thank Mf Maslin for his donation.
