SUFFERINGS OF EXPLORERS.
Thursday Island, Nov. 22,

News received here of the great sufferings of the exploring expedition in German New Guinea shows that the party was led by a well-known German naturalist, who had been sent out for the purpose of oxploration, and by the Commandant of Police in German New Guinea. After being out two mouths their rations were exhausted, and they lived on grass and water. The members were attacked by a Eicourge of poisonous flies and leeches, and the flesh of all festered. Their sufferings were terrible, and all are in au emaciated condition. They decided to make for British New Guinea for succour, and in attempting to cross a river on a raft the two leaders and a number of natives were drowned. The survivors had great difficulty in sustaining life, and were almost famished. They made their way through dense juDgle towards the coaßt, where they were met and rescued by a friendly tribe. One man has died from weakness and others are unlikely to recover.
